Ron Paul, Candidate for President 2008
I've been following the rise of Ron Paul as a Presidential candidate over the past couple of weeks. His candidacy is an excellent illustration of the power of the Internet, and specifically the power of social organization on the Net.
Paul's candidacy has been powered by users of sites such as Digg and Reddit, socially driven news sites that put the users in control of content and discussion. The users of Digg and Reddit have really put Ron Paul, a libertarian, on the electoral map for the upcoming primaries. Through sheer force of numbers and effort they have managed to have Paul included in Presidential debates, have coverage of him included in mainstream media, and have him taken a lot more seriously as a Presidential candidate.
One link from Reddit today caught my eye and really increased my interest in Ron Paul. This is a link to his statement in Congress explaining why he is voting against awarding President Ronald Reagan the Gold Medal.
His reasoning is airtight.
